Minerva’s Basic Abilities

Posted on November 20, 2019November 20, 2019

Greetings fellow enthusiasts of all things creepy, spooky, and terrifyingly difficult! We’re beginning a series of posts leading up to our launch that explores various aspects of our upcoming game, Don’t Die, Minerva!

To kick things off, let’s talk about Minerva’s basic mechanics- the things she can do right out of the box.

First of all, she’s armed with a flashlight, which serves as her primary weapon. These come in many varieties (more on that in future posts). Different behaviors, stats, and synergies with other items play a big factor in the game.

She also has a strong defensive game, the backbone of which is her dash mechanic. This starts as a simple dodge roll that gets her out of the way quickly but still leaves her vulnerable to attack. Eventually you’ll upgrade your dash to a magical bamf that lets you fly straight through hazards.

Perhaps the most exciting tool in Minerva’s arsenal is her ability to deploy Friendlies- plush toy animals who come to life and fight by her side. Just like the flashlight, these come in a wide variety (via procedurally-generated loot), and you’re free to choose the ones that suit your style.

Stay tuned, because there’s much, much more to come as we reveal more about the game and dive deeper on various systems.
